Wintergreen

I was art-shopping with the kids the other day and we were at Ellerslie Gift and Greenhouse on the south side.  Despite the wintery weather, they have a small but healthy selection of tropical plants.

On the discount table, I found a lovely little perennial that was on my wish list...Wintergreen!  Wikipedia reports:

Wintergreen berries, from Gaultheria procumbens, are used medicinally. Native Americans brewed a tea from the leaves to alleviate rheumatic symptoms, headache, fever, sore throat and various aches and pains. During the American Revolution, wintergreen leaves were used as a substitute for tea, which was scarce. Source

It's really pretty; as a creeping ground cover it stays evergreen year round.  When the ground thaws this spring, I have a few shady spots to pop it into!
